Cleaning and Sealing

Block wall sealing and cleaning

Cleaning

All cleaning methods should be trialed on a small area to make sure there are no adverse reaction to the blocks

General soiling - Mild detergent ( dish washing liquid) water and a good scrub with a medium brush. A pressure clean will also help.

Mortar stains - Stiff nylon brush and water, avoid all corrosive chemicals.

Organic or timber stains - Spray lightly with liquid chlorine. Keep moist and rinse thoroughly after the stain has disappeared

Rust stains - phosphoric acid, one part acid to ten parts water, use cautiously and rinse thoroughly

Efflorescence - Start with a stiff nylon brush, if no success try a pressure clean then "KLen ANTI-EFF" follow the instructions, use cautiously . For more details contact villastone.

Sealing

At villastone we recommend sealing your finished project. There is a vast amount of sealers to choose from. As sealers can alter the appearance of the block we recommend you talk to a paint professional about the desired finish you want. Tow basic questions you should ask yourself is do you want a natural sealer that will not change the look of your blocks or do you want to enhance the color of your project by giving it a "wet look" finish.
